Cuisine British
- 9 lasagne sheets
- 1 onion chopped
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 500 g beef mince
- 400 g canned chopped tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato purée
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 600 ml whole milk
- 50 g butter
- 50 g plain flour
- 100 g grated cheddar cheese
- Grated Parmesan cheese for topping
Prepare the Meat Sauce:
Heat some oil in a pan. Add chopped onions and minced garlic. Cook until softened.
Add the beef mince, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, and cook until browned.
Pour in the chopped tomatoes, tomato purée, and dried oregano. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for about 20 minutes until thickened.
Make the Béchamel Sauce
In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the flour, stirring continuously for 1-2 minutes to make a paste.
Gradually pour in the milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Cook until the sauce thickens. Stir in the grated cheddar cheese until melted. Remove from heat.
Assemble the Lasagne
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.
Place a layer of lasagne sheets over the sauce, followed by more meat sauce and a drizzle of béchamel sauce.
Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a generous layer of béchamel sauce on top.
Bake:
Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the top of the lasagne.
Cover the dish with foil and bake for about 40-45 minutes.
Remove the foil for the last 10 minutes of baking to allow the top to turn golden and bubbly.
