- 500 grams bone-in chicken pieces preferably chicken thighs or drumsticks
- 1 cup yogurt curd, whisked until smooth
- 2 large onions finely sliced
- 3 tomatoes finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1/4 cup fresh cream
- 2 tablespoons ghee or vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 2-3 green cardamom pods
- 1- inch cinnamon stick
- 4-5 cloves
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon dried fenugreek leaves kasuri methi
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
- Sliced onions and lemon wedges for serving
In a large bowl, combine the chicken, lemon juice, ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder, salt, turmeric powder, and yogurt. Mix well to coat the chicken.
Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight.
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
Add the tomatoes and cook until softened and mushy, about 10 minutes.
Add the marinated chicken and cook, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through, about 15 minutes.
Stir in the milk, cream, kasuri methi, and chaat masala. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
Serve hot with rice or naan.
